According to the Quebec Education Program, the goal of the Secondary English Language Arts program is to develop a confident learner who finds in language, discourse and text means of coming to terms with ideas and experiences, as well as a medium for communicating with others and for learning across the curriculum.

The aim of the English Literature course is to enhance students' literacy through the study of multiple works of literature representative of all cultures, languages and people. Over the course of the year, there will be emphasis placed on learning effective writing communication skills, mastering appropriate vocabulary as well as using literary terms successfully.
