Physical Education Curriculum

Physical Education and Health 543-100/543-204

The focus of the Physical Education program is on the following three competencies:
1. Performs movement skills in different physical activity settings
• Improves motor efficiency by mastering movement skills
• Assesses performance in order to find own strengths and weaknesses
• Takes into account the performance constraints of the learning environment
2. Interacts with others in different physical activity settings
• Cooperates with others in developing a plan of action, carrying out the plan and evaluating it.
3. Adopts a healthy active lifestyle
• Analyzes the impact of one's own lifestyle habits on health and well-being
• Develops, applies and assesses a plan to improve personal lifestyle habits.

General Objectives

One of the objectives of the Physical Education and Health program is to help students improve their movement skills and ability to interact with others through regular physical activity.

Program

The focus of the program is the study of movement and the actions performed in each sport, game or movement activity. Cognitive and socio-affective evaluation fulfills the remaining course requirements.
The three movement categories are:
• Personal environment
• Physical environment
• Social environment

A variety of Physical Education activities are included such as Fitness, Track and Field, Swimming, Cross-Country Running, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton etc.


Physical Education 544

An advanced physical education program with a heavy emphasis on leadership. The course covers a wide range of topics including First Aid training, dealing with and prevention of sports injuries, sports administration and organization (student will organize and run various school board tournaments such as basketball, volleyball, etc) Students will also participate in a variety of sports including football, lacrosse, golf and free style wrestling. (4 Credits)
