2010 SECONDARY 5 OPTION COURSES
Physics: This course is a one-year pre-collegial program in Physics designed for those wishing to enter CEGEP in the Pure and Applied or Health Science Programs. The interrelationship between Science, technology and society is stressed throughout the program using an experimental hands-on approach. Prerequisites in Technical or Scientific Math and Science of the Environment are necessary. (4 Credits)
Chemistry: This course is a one-year pre-collegial program designed for those wishing to enter CEGEP in the Pure and Applied or Health Science Programs. Through an experimental approach, the student develops a sense of environmental issues while acquiring an understanding of the relationship between science, technology, and society. Prerequisites in Technical or Scientific Math and Science of the Environment are necessary. (4 credits)
World History: A social science course that focuses attention on the major events of the 20th century. Students will study the causes and results of world wars, technological and social revolutions, economic upheavals and peace talks. Twentieth century ideologies such as imperialism, nationalism, and totalitarianism will also be examined, discussed, and analysed. (4 Credits)
Media Arts: A course that allows students to discover the use of modern media equipment. They learn how to integrate computer applications such as spreadsheets, draw, and paint, with other media tools, such as digital and video cameras. In addition to making and editing video commercials, in the last term, students will use all their acquired knowledge and skills to create a lesson, presentation or tutorial. (4 Credits)
Physical Education 544: An advanced physical education program with a heavy emphasis on leadership. The course covers a wide range of topics including First Aid training, dealing with and prevention of sports injuries, sports administration and organization (student will organize and run various school board tournaments such as basketball, volleyball, etc) Students will also participate in a variety of sports including football, lacrosse, golf and free style wrestling. (4 Credits)
Spanish As a Third Language: Students will develop three competencies in this program. (1) Communicates orally in Spanish (2) Understands texts (3) Writes texts. (4 credits)
Visual Art: The student will develop skills in painting and drawing. Knowledge of painting is developed through painting analysis. Students will be encouraged to develop individually through an exploration of themes. (4 Credits)
Italian: Students will further develop their Italian language skills and writing skills in this program. Students must have some Italian conversational skills. (4 Credits)
English Literature: The Literature course is designed to give students the ability to explore and develop an appreciation of a wide variety of literature. (4 credits)
You will be asked to indicate your preference by numbering your choices from 1 to 9 ( 1 being your first choice). You will be assigned 2 of your 4 choices.
N.B. If you do not pass Science and Technology or/and History and Citizenship in Secondary 4 you will be required to retake that course(s) in Secondary 5 and will loose your option course(s).
