Responsibilities

Responsibilities of President


The president is the leader of the council.  The president must lead, but should also encourage other members to take on leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities to council members:

  • Coordinate meetings.
  • Aid the council secretary by summarizing group decisions so they can be clearly recorded.
  • Maintain good working relationship with members.
  • Submit proposed agendas to council for vote.
  • Participate as a voting member of council.
  • Praise council members publicly for a good job on projects or assignments.
  • Allow different sides of a given issue to be presented to council.
  • Keep in touch with all committee members.
  • You will hold the tiebreaking vote in the event a vote on a motion is tied.

Responsibilities to students:

  • Voice student concerns to the faculty and administration, and to attempt to develop programs that will address these concerns.
  • You will have to advocate and defend the interests of the whole student body Seek student opinions.

Responsibilities to faculty and administration:

  • Keep faculty and administration informed on significant developments in council.
  • Arrange direct dialogs between educators and students.
  • Work with faculty and administration to design and implement ways to enhance educational atmosphere of school.
  • Point out problems in the school before they become crises.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.
  • Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.

Responsibilities to community:

  • Attend governing board meetings as voting member.

 Responsibilities of Vice President


The vice president is the assistant leader of the council.  The vice president must lead, but should also encourage others officers and members to take on leadership responsibilities.  The vice president will serve as council leader in the absence of the president. 

Responsibilities:

  • In the event that the president is no longer able to occupy his or her position you will become the acting president.
  • Contribute ideas during meetings.
  • Work with all council members to work out any differences.
  • You are expected to actively participate in the organization of student activities
  • Represent the interests of secondary 4 students.
  • Take informal polls on how students feel about certain subjects.
  • Attend governing board meetings as voting member.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.
  • Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.

 

Responsibilities of Secretary


The duties of the secretary are to accurately record the councils various activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep an accurate record of the exact wording of issues considered by the council. 
  • Help the group reach decisions that may be clearly recorded.
  • Contribute personal ideas and opinions whenever appropriate.
  • You are expected to actively participate in the organization of student activities
  • As a member of the executive you will have the right to speak to and vote on the various motions put forward during the council’s meetings.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.
  • Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.

Responsibilities of Treasurer


The duties of the treasurer are to keep accurate records of all financial transactions of the council. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with advisors, president, vice president, and committee members to formulate an active budget for the council.
  • Make cost analysis of proposed activities and projects.
  • Make monthly financial statements and report to the council.
  • You are expected to actively participate in the organization of student activities
  • As a member of the executive you will have the right to speak to and vote on the various motions put forward during the council’s meetings.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.
  • Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.

Responsibilities of Communications Officer


The duties of the communications officer are to keep the student body informed of activities and other items of interest.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for keeping students informed about the activities of the student council
  • Keep the student council website updated
  • Contribute personal ideas and opinions whenever appropriate.
  • You are expected to actively participate in the organization of student activities
  • As a member of the executive you will have the right to speak to and vote on the various motions put forward during the council’s meetings.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.
  • Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.
  • Represent student interests at marketing committee meetings.

Responsibilities of Level Representatives

The duties of the representative are to embody the council’s efforts to be the student voice.  Representatives must develop a dialog between students and student council.

Responsibilities:

  • You are the voice on student council for your level.
  • Report council activities to student body on a regular basis.
  • Present, as fairly as possible, students’ ideas and concerns to the council.
  • Attend all student council functions.
  • Make special effort to inform students about upcoming council projects and activities.
  • Take informal polls on how students feel about certain subjects.
  • Encourage non-members of student council to participate in projects and activities.
  • You are expected to actively participate in the organization of student activities Report any problems to moderators before they develop into major issues.
  • Respect all faculty and administration.
  • Display proper behaviour at all times.

Responsibilities of Members at Large

Members at Large help to organize student events and help to maintain and enhance student life. (Formally called Student Social Committee) 

Responsibilities:
